Kaizen Practitioners at Waikato District Health Board
Kaizen Institute New Zealand has been involved at all levels of healthcare for many years to support the betterment of people and processes. During September 2016 we certified another group of Kaizen Practitioners at Waikato District Health Board in Hamilton. To obtain this globally-recognised qualification they attended five training courses: Kaizen Lean Essentials, Lean for Office or Service, Value Stream Mapping, TPM Essentials, and Kaizen Lean Flow Essentials. The Kaizen tools helped to gain efficiencies as stated by Rob Blaikie: “Our team board has moved from a history board to an action-orientated board.” He proudly alluded that his team has met their targets due to the disciplined application of the Kaizen tools.Good examples of muda identification, visual management, 5S, standardisation, kanban, increased patient and information flow, and problem solving, were shown by all the Kaizen Practitioners. The recipients also presented the excellent results of several improvement projects they are involved in.
Is there still room for improvement in their work? For sure; that’s why it is called Continuous Improvement. Can these participants be proud of their work? Absolutely; Kaizen celebrates achievements!
We congratulate each recipient and encourage them to pursue the creation of a holistic, Continuous Improvement culture at the Waikato District Health Board.
